不矛盾，这只是中国翻译过来的方法有问题，
latest 本意是最迟的. 用时间轴来表示，可以看出他们其实没有任何区别：
You’re the latest one to get here.(你是最迟，到这的人）
翻译成，你是最后一个到的人。
前面到的人1—人2—人3——latest one——–>

This is the latest news of the war.(这是这场战争最迟发生的新闻）
翻译成，这是这场战争的最新消息。
之前的发生的事件1—事件2—事件3—–latest news—–>

同理：
This is the latest version of this movie/product.
这是最新版本的电影/产品。（因为是最后制作出来的，所以是最新的，之前还有别的版本）
